Boreal Bioref

Boreal Bioref Oy is planning a biorefinery in Kemijärvi, to be located in the Patokangas area to the north of the former Stora Enso pulp mill area.

The Kemijärvi biorefinery processes 700,000 tones of high-quality, long-fiber pulp, soluble pulp and other bioproducts from top-quality northern wood per year. The location in the middle of growing forests shortens transport distances and provides fresh wood, which also recovers valuable, volatile and soluble ingredients. In cooperation with our partners, we make full use of wood and are involved in the development of new, high-value-added products.

Clean nature and a prosperous environment are our core values. The Kemijärvi biorefinery is designed and built using new, most environmentally friendly processes and solutions. Our starting point is to build the cleanest biorefinery in the world, acting as a pioneer and an example of how nurturing the environment and clean nature and profitable business can go hand in hand.

The biorefinery procures the raw material nearby and employs local people and businesses. The biorefinery brings income to the people of the region in the form of wages, purchases and taxes.
