Jiva Sciences Private Limited is a Bengaluru based start-up that takes up Research Process Outsourcing (RPO) in the areas of bio-engineering. Founded in 2015, the business model is different from Contract Research Outsourcing (CRO), as in the latter, the design of the experiment and what steps to be taken for getting to the objective is specified by the client. In the case of Jiva Sciences, the development will require significant amount of original work by the company together with client collaboration.

The company’s focus is on high impact solutions in the above areas where it works along with the customer in arriving at the solution or final product with multi-disciplinary teams focusing on the problem. While the initial problem definition would be by the customer, Jiva Sciences would refine and possibly re-define the problem and work collaboratively with the customer team, in fashioning the solution. Many such solutions/products would be patentable, the patent rights typically vesting with the customer or in some cases, it could be a joint development with Jiva Sciences, where the company also bears some of the development risk.

The company is a high learning organization with engineers and scientists having reasonable depth of knowledge across more than one discipline. Very specialized knowledge could be brought in by working with academics and outside teams, with our employees getting opportunities to work with such experts. High level of confidentiality of the development being undertaken and tight contracts with employees & outsourcing organizations, are key operational aspects of the company. These ensure that IPR of the customer is protected and any patent rights relating to the solution accrue to the customer.
