Catalysts are used to create finished fuels in both renewable and traditional refineries. They are required to remove impurities such as nitrogen, sulfur, and oxygen. Renewable feedstocks contain significant amounts of oxygen, which must be removed. The rate of deoxygenation sets the throughput capacity; this step is currently a bottleneck.

NULIFE has developed a proprietary Hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) catalyst that has demonstrated the potential to increase renewable fuel production and lower GHG emissions globally.
