Best known for its extensive line of motorcycles, Yamaha Motor also makes scooters, electric-hybrid bicycles, four-wheel ATVs, leisure and fishing boats, racing and golf carts, and snowmobiles. Motorcycles, which make up about 60% of the company's sales, have about a 20% market share in North America. Overseas markets account for about 90% of sales. Founded in 1955, Yamaha Motor and its more than 140 subsidiaries and affiliates operate sales and manufacturing plants throughout the world. Musical instrument manufacturer Yamaha Corporation owns about 10% of the company.

Whatever your pursuit, Yamaha is there, too, pursuing our goals. We want to satisfy our customers and exceed their expectations with products and services of superior quality, unmatched performance, and extraordinary value.

Yamaha Motor's core areas of expertise include powertrain technology originating from motorcycle development, and the chassis/hull technology that complements the performance of our vehicles and boats. Further to this, Yamaha Motor expanded into developing electronic control technology and component technology in order to build a multi-axial business structure while at the same time pursuing globalization of our corporate activities. Our powertrain technology is now implemented in new fields such as marine engines, recreational vehicles, and other power products, while our FRP processing expertise (part of our core competence in hull technology) is now used for pool manufacturing and personal vehicle exteriors.
