The major use for calcium bromide is as a component of high-density clear drilling, completion, workover, and packing fluids to control wellbore pressures. Calcium bromide finds other applications in photography, in medicine, in sizing compounds, as a wood preservative, and in flame retardant blends. It is used to prepare solids free workover and completion fluids with densities up to 15.2 lb/gal. It can also be used for packer fluids. Calcium Bromide is also used to increase the density of various calcium chloride/calcium bromide/zinc bromide blends |
Description | ||
---|---|---|
Calcium Bromide (CaBr2) is a white powdered inorganic salt of 95% purity. Calcium Bromide brines contribute to formation damage control by stabilizing the water sensitive clays during workover and completion operations. An exothermic reaction takes place when Calcium Bromide is added to water. This results in an increase in brine temperature. |
