Resorcinol is used in industry in the manufacture of adhesives and sealant chemicals; dyes; functional fluids in closed systems; intermediates; plating agents and surface treating agents, paint additives and coating additives; and process regulators. It is also used medicinally in the pharmaceutical industry as an antiseptic and disinfectant, and is used 5 to 10% in ointments in the treatment of chronic skin diseases such as psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, and sub-acute eczema
Description
Resorcinol is a white crystalline solid that turns pink upon exposure to light if not completely pure. The substance is flammable, although ignition is difficult. Resorcinol has a faint, characteristic odor, sweetish taste followed by bitter taste, and is not classifiable as a human carcinogen.
