Diisopropyl ether is a good solvent for animal, plant and mineral oils and can be used to extract nicotine from tobacco. It is also a good solvent for paraffin and resin. In industry, diisopropyl ether and other solvents are often used in the paraffin base oil dewaxing process. As a solvent is also used in pharmaceutical, smokeless gunpowder, paint and paint cleaning, diisopropyl ether has high octane number and antifreeze performance, can be used as a gasoline mixture. The product is easy to form peroxide and explode when shaking. The anesthetic effect of diisopropyl ether was lighter than that of ether, but the duration of anesthesia was longer. It is used as solvent, concentration and recovery of dilute solution of acetic acid or butyric acid, extraction solvent of sodium thiocyanate in wet-process acrylic fiber process. Isopropyl ether is a colorless liquid. It smells ethereal. Unstable in light and air. It is easy to form peroxides, which will explode during shaking. Therefore, the peroxides produced should be treated with sodium sulfite solution before use. P -Benzyl-Aminophenol or hydroquinone are often added as stabilizers. It is miscible with ethanol and ether and slightly soluble in water. |
