Sodium butyrate is a sodium salt of butyrate and a short chain fatty acid. It is a natural byproduct of dietary fiber fermentation in your large intestine. Butyrate is a fatty acid that is fermented by anaerobes of dietary fiber, such as cellulose, in your colon, which can combine with sodium to form a salt called sodium butyrate. the natural function of butyrate in the colon is not fully understood, butyrate is a powerful antidote for ammonium and neurotoxin, which can promote the formation of friendly or symbiotic bacteria in the stomach and intestines. Studies have shown that butyrate may also inhibit the development of colon cancer, although human research is still lacking. |
