It is used as a solvent, a passivator for a catalyst, a pesticide intermediate and a coking inhibitor. Dimethyl disulfide reacts with cresol to form 2-methyl-4-hydroxybenzyl sulfide, which is then condensed with o, o-dimethylsulfuryl chloride in an alkaline medium to obtain fenthion. Fenthion is a highly effective and low-toxic organo phosphorus insecticide with excellent control effects on rice aphids, soybean borers and burdock larvae. Used as a fuel and lubricant additive. It is the main raw material of methyl sulfonyl chloride and methane sulfonic acid |
